IN THIS ARTICLE WE WILL LEARN ABOUT HOW TO CHECK THE TEMPERATURE OF FRESHLY MIXED CEMENT CONCRETE AT THE SITE AS PER ASTM C 1064/C 1064M -08
DETERMINATION OF TEMPERATURE OF FRESHLY MIXED CONCRETE
SCOPE - This test method covers the determination of the temperature of freshly mixed Hydraulic-cement concrete. The measured temperature represents the temperature at the time of testing and may not be an indication of the temperature of the freshly mixed concrete at a later time
CALIBRATION OF TEMPERATURE MEASURING DEVICE - Each temperature measuring device used for determining the temperature of freshly mixed concrete shall be calibrated annually, or whenever there is a question of accuracy.
SAMPLING OF CONCRETE- It is acceptable to measure the temperature of freshly mixed concrete in either the transporting equipment or the from after discharge provide the sensor of the temperature measuring device has at least 3 inches (75mm) of concrete cover in all direction.
If the transporting equipment and placement forms are not used as the container. A sample shall be prepared in a separate container.
PROCEDURE-
- Position the temperature measuring device so that the end of the temperature sensing portion is submerged a minimum of 3 inches (75mm) into the freshly mixed concrete.
- Close the voids left by the placement by gently pressing the concrete around the temperature measuring device at the surface of the concrete to prevent ambient air temperature from affecting the reading.
- Leave the temperature device in the freshly concrete for at least 2 minutes but not more than 5 minutes, then read and record the temperature to the nearest 1°F ( 0.5 °C).
- Do not remove the device from the concrete when reading the temperature.
REPORT - Report the measured temperature of the freshly mixed concrete to the nearest 1°F ( 0.5 °C).
FRESHLY MIXED CONCRETE TEMPERATURE SHALL BE IN 28° C - 32°C
